As you allude, Russia and Germany are natural allies, in that each has what the other wants and can best get via cooperation.
One of the American objectives is to prevent this from coming to fruition. What is remarkable is how willingly the German leadership class subordinates its own interests to making their American master happy.
Chancellor Scholz said nothing when Joe Biden at The White House announced that Nord Stream would not go ahead, so suggesting that "arrangements" had been made.
The usual closed door arrangements that one can read about in 60 years time when declassified.
One should live so long.

Everyone plays everyone while imagining the other "are playing our game", a quote from a former US President to be used in a subsequent essay.
One hypothesizes that the German Military Right, bearing down on the German Executive within the Government, want to put things right after the outcomes of WW II with a Russian Armed Forces defeat and reclaiming of lost territory.
"- Western unity is the United States telling other countries, “Do what we tell you to. If other countries don’t do what America tells it to, they’re treated like the enemy . . . have no idea how to . . . attract other countries to it. All the United States can do is . . . We have nothing positive to offer you. We have no trade options to offer you. We have no investment to offer you that will not siphon off your income. All we can do is bomb you and threaten you and sanction you and try to hurt you. That’s the only way the United States and now Europe can relate to the rest of the world". Dr. Michael Hudson."
This is fairly close to the top of this page, right below the photo of an F22, 3 men and a bomb.
Especially this last phrase, 'That's the only way the US can relate to the rest of the world' is striking, I think.
Do you know Kristin Christman, Paradigm for peace, published on Countercurrents? She writes about, among other things, "Mental escalators of violence in US policy and media makers".
Not after they're written. The working papers go and after a few months it's "Did I write that"? I have to check to ensure I do not repeat ideas.
Re Kristin Christman, she qualified in Russian affairs. Thus so qualified as The Last Kremlin Stooge, in some people's estimations.
As for her "looking for non-violent pathways to peace", an oxymoron and a double bind that ignores History and Human Nature. Killing is deeply biological, as it is in Chimpanzees, our "chaps next door".
Taking an historical approach, you cannot bomb your way to peace, as in - "We create a desert and call it peace". If the other side is obliterated, who needs to negotiate a peace.
Taking an anthropological approach, humans are driven to solutions consistent with deep seated genetic behaviour. This, of course, will fire up all those who believe we exercise free will over our behaviour. That is a hard one to defend - for them.
It's always worth pointing out - your pet cat or dog will not stab you in the back. Keep an eye on humans. Personally, I prefer gorillas. They're nice guys.
The United States House and Senate - Israeli Occupied Territory. Their stooges are a global contagion.
Those at the centre of Israeli Interests appear to have less interest in the welfare of the United States as Israeli interests take front and centre position.
__________
The Israeli Government have acted against Russian interests which will place them and other of Washington's allied states in a difficult place when Washington's global influence declines, faster than they can contemplate. Whatever happens next will be by the good graces of Russia and China and they may not be too gracious about it.
To quote a popular line from a popular Hollywood movie - "You've pissed off all the wrong people".
Hi Les, I've searched again, and I found it. The citation is from an interview of Michael Hudson with RT posted on The Saker, may 21 2022. As you know, of course.
Thank you for this, Les. (From a disillusioned American living in Europe.)
Nice OV-1 (1st graphic - Operational View). Very DoD-like.
